Russia’s prestigious medal to be given to head of Tajikistan’s Pushkin Society

DUSHANBE, January 22, Asia-Plus  — Russia’s prestigious Pushkin Medal will be given to Ms. Tatiana German, chairwoman of Tajikistan’s Pushkin Society, today, according to the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe.  

Kamil Magomedov, Third Secretary, Russian Embassy, told Asia-Plus that Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ramazan Abdulatipov would bestow the medal on Tatiana German.

“After a ceremony of giving the medal that will be held at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex, a meeting will be held to sum up the results of work carried out by Tajikistan’s Pushkin Society during the Russian Language Year,” Magomedov said. 

 We will recall that Academician Mamadsho Ilolov, President of Tajikistan’s Academy of Sciences, Tatiana German, Chairperson of Tajikistan’s Pushkin Society, and Maysara Kalonova, member of the board of the Tajik Society of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries, won the Pushkin Medal. 

Representatives of Tajikistan became winners along with a group of other foreign citizens.  Russian President signed a decree on awarding the Pushkin Medal to them on December 5, 2007.

The Pushkin Medal, given by the Russian government, recognizes contributions to Russia in the sphere of Russian culture and education.

Established in 1999 by former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, the award commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin. 

Among the winners of this prestigious award are Dmitry Likhachyov, a renowned scholar of humanities, George Soros, an American philanthropist, Czech President Vaclav Klaus, Mongolian President Nambaryn Enchbajar and Croatian President Stipe Mesic.
