DUSHANBE, January 21, Asia-Plus — In 2007, Tajik customs officers collected 1.11 billion somonis (TJS) in customs duty, which is 50 percent more than in the previous year, Nematboy Rahmatov, the first deputy chief of Tajik Customs Service, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 21.
According to him, it has become possible due to enhancement of personnel policy, expansion of cooperation among customs services of the region, as well as creation of favorable conditions for development of export-import operations.
In 2007, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electric energy and natural gas, amounted to $3.9 billion, Tajik customs official said.
The trade balance was negative and amounted to $1.1 billion. In 2007, exports of goods amounted to $1.4 billion and imports of goods into the country amounted to $2.5 billion.
