DUSHANBE, January 11, Asia-Plus  — In 2007, 128 school buildings to accommodate totaling 24,056 pupils were constructed or renovated in Tajikistan, Asia-Plus has learned from Noilsho Nouraliyev, a spokesman for the ministry of education  (MoE). 

According to him, 3,810 general schools with totaling 1,619,585 pupils and 99,895 teachers now function in the country.  At present Tajikistan has 6,856 teaching vacancies, the spokesman said.  

On the higher professional education, Nouraliyev said that Tajikistan has 28 higher educational institutions with totaling 146,219 students and more than 7,700 lecturers. 

He added that 22 higher educational institutions are funded from the budget, four others are self-supporting institutions and two higher educational institutions are non-government commercial institutions.
