DUSHANBE, January 11, Asia-Plus  — A roundtable meeting formally titled “Corporate Governance: Test of the Pen” was held in Dushanbe on January 10.

The meeting is part of the Central Asia Corporate Governance Project implemented and funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. 

The main objective of the meeting was in promoting regular coverage of the corporate governance issues in mass media. 

Experts that conducted the meeting acquainted the participants with general issues of the corporate governance and cited practical examples of how improvement of corporate governance practices of joint stock companies and banks promotes development of them and increase in their ability to attract investment.

Speaking at the meeting, Ilhom Narziyev, editor of the Republican Press Center, noted that the meeting had allowed journalists understanding significance and topicality of the corporate governance for Tajikistan.   

The Central Asia Corporate Governance Project helps local joint stock companies and banks strengthen their corporate governance practices with a view to improving their operations and increasing their ability to attract investment and financing.  In addition, the project works with policymakers to improve the regulatory framework for corporate governance and increase the region”s overall investment climate and the business-enabling environment.   To raise awareness among Central Asia’s population and media on corporate governance issues, the project also conducts a national public education campaign.
