DUSHANBE, January 11, Asia-Plus  — Closed joint stock company (CJSC) Zarubezhneftegaz, subsidiary of Russia’s state-controlled gas company Gazprom in Tajikistan, has completed seismic operations at the Sargazon gas field in Khatlon’s Danghara district.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), to start exploration work Zarubezhneftegaz has to sign an agreement with the government of Tajikistan in the near future.

We will recall that Gazprom announced on December 29, 2006 that it received licenses from the Tajik government to explore oil and gas reserves.  According to specialists, Sargazon, located in the Khaton province, some 150 kilometers from Dushanbe, has possible gas reserves of 30 billion cubic meters.  The Rengan field, which is located in the Rudaki district, some 20 kilometers from Dushanbe, has possible reserves of 35 billion cubic meters.   The licenses were issued under a strategic cooperation agreement signed between Gazprom and the Tajik government May 15, 2003.

Tajik Energy and Industries Minister Gul Sherali noted last April that if the Russian company fulfills its obligations in good faith, Tajikistan will grant it licenses for exploring two other gas fields in Tajikistan – Western Shohambari and Sariqamish.
