Afghan national has been arrested for trying to smuggle a large amount of synthetic drug into Tajikistan.

The Customs Service says a 25-year-old resident of the Afghan city of Herat, Jamshed Nasir, has been detained on suspicion of drug trafficking.

An inspection of persons proceeding via the Panji Pyon border crossing in Khatlon province found 3.9 kilograms of white crystal narcotic – methamphetamine – hidden in Nasir’s luggage, according to the Customs Service press center.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged drug trafficker and an investigation is under way.

Crystal methamphetamine is an intensive stimulant with disinhibitory qualities.  Crystal is made of highly volatile, toxic substances (based on such chemical “precursors” as methylamine and amyl amine) that are melded in differing combinations.  The drug can either be snorted or injected, or in its crystal form 'ice' smoked in a pipe.
