DUSHANBE, January 9, Asia-Plus — In 2008, prices in Tajikistan will rise not more than 8 percent, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).
We will recall that inflation had reached 12 percent by the end of last year instead of the planned 7 percent.
In the meantime, the CIS committee for statistics expects inflation in Tajikistan to stand at 10 percent this year.
Experts from the International Monetary Fund expect inflation in the CSI states to average 8.3 percent in 2008. Among the CIS states, the highest inflation rate is expected in Azerbaijan – 17 percent.
According to IMF, in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, inflation this year is expected to stand at more than 10 percent. In Russia and Kazakhstan, inflation will stand at 8.1 percent and 8.8 percent respectively. In Kyrgyzstan, inflation is expected to stand at 5 percent, Armenian – 4 percent and Georgia – 6.3 percent.
