DUSHANBE, December 6, Asia-Plus — The next meeting of interagency commission, comprising representatives from the ministries of interior, education and health, is expected to be held in Dushanbe in the first half of December, Asia-Plus has learned from Ramazon Rahimov, the chief of the migration service of the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
According to him, organized employment of Tajik labor migrants in the Russian Federation will be focus of the upcoming meeting.
“The commission will discuss a joint order by the ministries of interior, health and education on training of skilled specialists by vocational-technical schools,” Rahimov said, noting that some 20 vocational-technical schools across the country have to date organized short-term training courses for labor migrants.
The Dushanbe-based vocational-technical school # 30 alone has trained some 40 labor migrants over the last several months, the migrations service chief said. “Well-trained migrants have more chance to get job legally.”
In the meantime, according to the migration service, more than 500,000 Tajik labor migrants now work in Russia and 40,000 in Kazakhstan. In future, they plan to place Tajik labor migrants in job in the far abroad countries, including Arab states.
Rahimov further added that that the interior ministry of Tajikistan and the health ministry of the Russian Federation had signed a supplementary protocol to the government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Russia on labor migration and protection of migrants’ rights.
“Beginning on February 1, 2008, all medical documents, including health certificate, issued in Tajikistan will be recognized as valid in the territory of Russia; it means that our migrants will not have to undergo medical examination twice – here and on arrival in Russia,” Rahimov said.
