It is already the second month that deflation process is going on in Tajikistan’s consumer sector.
In August, the prices and rates reportedly fell 0.3 percent, and in September the prices and rates fell 0.4 percent.
Deflation (a decrease in the general price level of goods and services) is a new phenomenon for Tajikistan.
Over the first nine months of this year, inflation rate in Tajikistan has been estimated at 5.6 percent.
Official sources link the September deflation process to reduction of prices for foodstuffs and air fares (14.1 percent reduction was reported in September).
The annual Tajikistan’s inflation rate for September 2017 was recorded at 6.7 percent. However, the target year-end rate for 2017 is 7.0 percent.
The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) experts say increase in housing and communal services rates (electricity and water) in the fourth quarter of this year can impact the inflation rate.
Meanwhile, the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan says index of consumer prices in September this year amounted to 99.6 percent, including foodstuffs – 99.0 percent, non-foodstuffs – 100.8 percent, and prices and rates for services rendered to the population – 99.6 percent.
In 2016, the highest inflation rate was reported in January – 1.4 percent.
The lowest inflation rate last year was reported in March, May and October – 0.2 percent.
