Anti-drug Channel 2007 Operation under way: Tajikistan tops operation participants in drug seizures

DUSHANBE, August 31, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan stands in first place among countries participating in anti-drug Channel 2007 Operation in terms of the amount of contraband drugs seized, having intercepted 212.846 kilograms of drugs since August 28, when the operation was launched, Asia-Plus has learned at press service of the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA).

The totaled included 116.495 kilograms of heroin, 10.12 kilograms of raw opium, and 86.23 kilograms of the cannabis-group drugs.  

We will recall that member nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) are participating in the first stage of the Channel 2007 Operation  that started on August 28 and will last till September 3.   

Representatives from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, China, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Iran, and the United States as well as officers from Interpol  are attending the first stage of the operation as observers.     

The Channel-2007 Operation, involving law enforcement agencies of member nations of the CSTO has been conducted annually since 2003.
