DUSHANBE, August 27, Asia-Plus — The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani is arriving in Dushanbe today evening for a two-day official visit, according to president’s office.

The source at president’s office said that today evening, the Emir is scheduled to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss issues related to boosting bilateral relations, and issues of common concern. 

Their talks will be followed by an enlarged meeting of delegation of the two countries, which is supposed to result in signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents. 

Tomorrow morning, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani is scheduled to visit the Norak hydropower station.  He is also supposed to visit sites of the Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 power plants.  

Tomorrow’s visit schedule also includes visit to the Tajik aluminum plant in the Tursunzoda district.  In Tursunzoda, the Emir will also familiarize himself with farming units dealing with viticulture. 

 After that, the Emir of Qatar will visit the Hissor district to familiarize himself with Tajik horse breeding.  

We will recall that during his visit to Qatar on May 6-7, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and a number of high-ranking Qatari state officials to discuss cooperation issues.  The two leaders’ talks focused on attracting Qatar and Arab investments in Tajikistan, in particular in Tajikistan’s hydropower sector.  During the visit, the sides signed two government-to-government agreements on economic, trade and technical cooperation, as well as mutual protection of investments, and two memoranda of cooperation between the countries’ foreign ministries and chambers of chambers of commerce and industry.  

According to Qatar’s English daily The Peninsula, the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Tajikistan will be followed by an official visit to Azerbaijan.
