Tajikistan reports 7.3 percent GDP growth in January-June

DUSHANBE, July 23, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 7.3 percent in the year to July 1, 2007, reaching 4.7885 billion somonis, Mirgand Shabozov, Chairman of the State Committee for Statistics, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 23.  

According to him, over the first six months of the year, 621.1 million somonis have come to the national budget from all investment resources, which is 12.9 percent of GDP.  

In January-June 2007, the foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to $1.7787 billion, which is 120.5 percent of the January-June 2007 level or $306.1 million more.  The trade balance was negative and amounted to 83.4m dollars.

Over the report period, Tajikistan has maintained economic contacts with 81 countries, including 11 Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) nations, which have account for 43.1%, or $767 million, of its foreign trade.  Other countries have accounted for 56.9%, or over $1 billion, in the Tajik foreign trade.

Tajikistan”s major CIS partners were Russia ($343 million), Kazakhstan ($164.5 million) and Uzbekistan ($157 million). The Netherlands, Turkey and China accounted for $340 million, $248 million and $101.5 million, respectively.

Over the same six-month period, a total volume of the national budget has amounted to 1.2543 billion somonis, which is 26.2 percent of GDP.  

Over the report period, Tajikistan has received 11,143 tons of humanitarian aid for a total amount of $35.963 million.
