Rumi police chief charged with committing 34 crimes

QURGHON TEPPA, May 8, Asia-Plus  — Rahmon Sharipov, the chief of police department in Khatlon’s Rumi district, is charged with having committed 34 crimes, Sabzali Odinayev, the chief of staff of the Khatlon anticorruption directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the anticorruption directorate on April 17 received an application from a woman from the Rumi district, who said that two local residents raped her on April 14.

According to her, she had applied to the Rumi police department but the local police had not taken any measures.

“Inspection by anticorruption officers revealed that Sharipov had not registered that crime,” said Odinayev.  “He had to send all case materials to the prosecutor’s office, but he did not do that and thereby he violated rights of the crime victim.”

Moreover, he received $1,500 from the head of the Uzun jamoat for not registering the crime, the anticorruption official said.

“Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the Rumi police chief under provisions of two articles of the Criminal Penal: Article 316 (abuse of office) and Article 319 (bribery),” Odinayev said, adding that according to the preliminary investigation, a total amount of bribes taken by Sharipov is some $45,000.

According to the Khatlon anticorruption directorate, 15 corruption-related crimes committed by police officers were reregistered in 2007.
