DUSHANBE, May 25, Asia-Plus – The NGO Women Scientists of Tajikistan has completed its six-month Eco Education for Women in Local Communities Project, which has been implemented under support of the Central Asia Ecology Center.

The NGO chairperson Muhiba Yoqubova told Asia-Plus that some 50 female residents of four mahalla (local community) in Dushanbe had got benefit from the last training conducted as part of the project.

The training considered the following themes: ecological aspects pf health lifestyle; national and international laws on the environmental protection issues and role of local communities in preservation of flora in Tajikistan.

According to her, the main objective of the project was to raise ecological awareness of women in local communities through conducting a series of trainings.

“Complex socioeconomic situation in the country has resulted in irrational exploitation of natural resources in the country,” said Yoqubova, “Thus, recent electricity shortages led to general cutting down of trees.”  She added that survey conducted by her NGO has shown that many people in the country are not well aware of the environmental protection issues and rational use of natural resources.

Training seminars organized by the NGO help local women raise their awareness of a package of documents on and the environmental protection issues and rational use of natural resources, the Ngo chairperson said.  The seminars also facilitate coordination of activities of population, state and no-government organizations, Ms. Yoqubova noted.
