DUSHANBE, May 25, Asia-Plus – Officers from the Interior Ministry department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) today burned some 844 kilograms of drugs.

The Tajik drug police chief, Major-General Fayzullo Gadoyev, told Asia-Plus that the totaled included nearly 490 kilograms of heroin, more than 222 kilograms of cannabis and 131 kilograms of raw opium, as well as 44 bushes of hemp and 561 bushes of opium poppy.

According to him, the drugs were confiscated in the course of 2006-2007 and were material evidences on 102 criminal proceedings instituted against 110 persons, including nine Afghan nationals. 

The Tajik drug police chief added that this is the second such drug burning this year.  “Totaling, more than 1,100 kilograms of drugs were destroyed in these two burnings,” the general said.
