Tajik national air carrier suspends flights to Munich. It claims Munich flights unprofitable

DUSHANBE, May 15, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s national air carrier, TajikAir, has temporarily suspended flights to Munich.

Alisher Rustamov, the deputy head of the TajikAir resource management center, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that Munich flights have been unprofitable and incurred considerable losses.

“TU-154s, having flight to Munich, are capable of carrying some 180 passengers, while we have carried not more than 10 people,” said Rustamov, “That is why these flights have been unprofitable.”

The TajikAir official further added that suspension of Munich flights is a temporary measure and the flights will be resumed as soon as at least one western type aircraft (Airbus or Boeing) is leased.

“In our opinion, it is the only way out of the situation because western type aircraft are economically efficient,” Rustamov said.

We will recall that TajikAir has operated once weekly TU-150 service from Dushanbe to Munich and a ticket for the flight has cost $530, and the round trip ticket has cost $820.
