KULOB, June 16, Asia-Plus — The Kulob prosecutor’s office has completed investigation into case of Bahrom Habibov, formerly chief of frontier post # 8 of the main border directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) in Khatlon’s Hamdoni district and currently head of farming unit Hoji Partov in Khatlon’s Vose district.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Alfattoh Roziqov, the deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob region, said that Habibov faces charge under the provisions of 20 articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code, ranging from illegal seizure of farmland to killing.
According to him, Habibov was also involved in drug trafficking. “Bahrom Habibov was arrested in January 2008, following testimonies of the convicted drug traffickers Fayzullo Sargardonov and Nazir Zarifov,” the prosecutor said, noting that Habibov killed Kulob resident Muboraksho Karimov on June 22, 1997.
Roziqov noted that from 2000 to 2003, Habibov was simultaneously head of the farming unit Hoji Partov in Vose and chief of frontier post in Hamadoni.
As head of the farming unit, Habibov also faces charges of tax evasion, service forgery, illegal seizure of farmland, etc.
“Habibov’s defense lawyers are currently familiarizing themselves with case materials and after that it will move to courts,” the prosecutor said.
