DUSHANBE, April 3, Asia-Plus – Twelve issues were on the agenda of a session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) permanent commission for economics and finance that was held in Dushanbe on April 3.
According to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), the Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker Saydullo Khairulloyev inaugurating the session underlined an important role of IPA in the strengthening of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Tajik speaker noted that Tajikistan had been one of the first among the CIS states to join the Assembly. Khairulloyev highly appraised contribution of the Assembly to expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation among the CIS states.
“Tajik parliamentarians are striving for further expansion of inter-parliamentary ties among the CIS states and will continue making its contribution to this process in future as well,” the speaker said.
He briefed members of the permanent commission on activities of the Majlisi Namoyandagon. “Laws and resolutions adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon meets international standards” the Majlisi Namoyandagon head said, adding that close cooperation of Tajik MPs with their colleagues from many foreign countries promotes development of parliamentarism in Tajikistan.
MPs from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine took part in the session’s work.
As it had been reported earlier, a delegation of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) permanent commission for economics and finance arrived in Dushanbe yesterday for a five-day visit. During their stay in Tajikistan, members of the CIS IPA permanent commission for economics and finance are also scheduled to meet with senior representatives from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and visit the Tajik Aluminum Plant (TadAZ) in Tursunzoda.
The Assembly was established in March 1995 by the leaders of Supreme Soviets (parliaments) of the Commonwealth countries as a consultative institution to discuss problems of parliamentary cooperation and develop proposals by the parliaments of the CIS states. The Assembly consists of parliamentary delegations of the states – participants of the CIS.
The activities of the Assembly are carried out by the Assembly Council, which comprises the leaders of the parliamentary delegations. The Assembly Secretariat, headed by Secretary-General, was created to ensure the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, its Council and commissions.
