KHOROG/KULOB, April 3, Asia-Plus – Activities dedicated to a Conscript Day were organized in Khorog, the capital of Gorno Badakhshan, and the city of Kulob in the Khatlon province on April 2.

Traditional meetings of conscripts with veterans of war were held in both cities.

In the meantime, a meeting of the GBAO regional military recruitment office was held in Khorog on April 2.  During the meeting it was noted that although last year’s autumn conscription campaign was successful, there were some serious shortcomings.  Thus, according to the GBAO military prosecutor Farhod Sharipov, many conscripts have health problems.

The GBAO regional military recruitment office officials noted that 73 percent of those called up for military last autumn were youth aged 18 to 20 and 27 percent were youth aged 20 to 23.  There was no any conscript with higher education, according to them.

The meeting also discussed issues related to the ongoing spring conscription campaign.

The Kulob city military recruitment office chief, Colonel Rahim Zohirov, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that some 200 youth from the city of Kulob are called up for the military service during the conscription campaign.  “We have to date sent 600 notifications and some 120 youth have come to the reception unit so far,” Zohirov said.
