DUSHANBE, January 26, Asia-Plus – Over the past two years, Russian Aluminum (RusAl) has consistently fulfilled its obligations under an agreement concluded with the Tajik government in October 2004, a statement released by the RusAl representative office in Dushanbe on January 25 said.
The statement, in particular, said that RusAl is ready to implement the project under optimal parameters of the feasibility study for the construction of the Roghun power plant by German engineering company Lehmeyer International (capacity – 2,400 megawatt, annual generation of electricity – 10.8 billion kWh, and a 285-meter high fill dam) and categorical fulfillment of the safety requirements and observance of all international norms and agreements on cross-border use of water resources and without attraction of budgetary funds both from Russia and Tajikistan.
“RusAl is not against bringing the dam’s height to 335 meters if the Tajik side funds this work and coordinates the project with all nations of the Amudarya River basin,” the statement said. It was noted that the company gave the Tajik government an update on its plans last October; however, it has not yet received a response to that letter.
We will recall that Minister of Energy and Industry Sherali Gulov Wednesday told journalists that RusAl has failed to observe the terms of its October 2004 agreement to complete the construction of the Roghun power station on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan.
