On Tuesday August 24, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Takayuki Miyashita together with Isror Isrorzoda, Deputy Chairperson of Murgab District in Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), attended the handover ceremony of successful completion of “The Project for Construction of Regional Hospital in Gozho Berdibayev Jamoat, Murgab District.”

The Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe says the project was implemented within the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).  The Government of Japan provided a total grant amount of US$89,250 to the local government of Murgab District for construction of a new building and toilet of regional hospital.  The ceremony was also attended by local officials, staff of the hospital and community members.

The regional hospital of Gozho Berdibayev Jamoat is the only public medical institution in the Jamoat and the importance of the hospital is very high for the local people who have limited access to the other medical services.  Furthermore, the residents were on the verge of losing the hospital because its former building belonged to the other organization and had to be returned to them.  With successful project completion a new building of the hospital with 8 rooms was constructed and now the population of the Jamoat can continue to receive high quality medical services in improved environment.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Miyashita made the following remarks, “I feel very much honored to handover this brand-new hospital to the people of Gozho Berdibayev.  I am confident this hospital will play a role of kernel hospital in this Jamoat with advanced medical services.  On behalf of the Government of Japan, it is my great pleasure to be a part of this important project in Murgab District and I am confident that this hospital will contribute to a long, healthy and happy life of the people.  From now, I look forward to seeing happy faces of men and women who will be leaving this hospital after satisfactory treatments.”

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance.  GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan.  Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs.  As of today, GGP has supported 424 projects in Tajikistan, for which US$34.3 million has been allocated since 1996.
