DUSHANBE, January 15, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan will report to the United Nations on the fulfillment of its obligations on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

The UN News Center reports that the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women will hold its thirty-seventh session at United Nations Headquarters in New York from January 15 to February 2 2007.  The session will examine country reports from 15 State Parties on the implementation of the CEDAW, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.  

On January 16, the session will examine the country report of Kazakhstan and report of Azerbaijan will be examined on January 23. 

The periodic report of Tajikistan on the status of the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women will be considered on January 26. 

A working group has already familiarized itself with written report of Kazakhstan and asked its authorities to provide additional information, in particular, on a progress of work on a bill on family violence, as well as on representation of women in judicial bodies.  

Tajik and Azeri authorities have also been requesting to provide additional information about scale of family violence.
