DUSHANBE, September 15, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s cellular operation “Babilon-Mobile” has introduced a new service for its clients – mobile television. 

According to information closed joint-stock company (CJSC) “Babilon-Mobile”, this service is available to “Babilon-Mobile” clients using 3G standard.  

A source in the “Babilon-Mobile” headquarters in Dushanbe says that at first, the client will be able to watch programs of only local TV channels dialing their phone numbers.  According to him, viewing of TV programs by cellular phone is rated as usual outgoing call.  “Viewing will cost $0.12 a minute, if the client uses the TV mobile service in the day-time and $0.096 a minute, if the client uses this service in the evening,” the source said.     

            According to the Ministry of Communications, “Babilon-Mobile” is the first cellular operator in Tajikistan to introduce the mobile TV service.   The source says any cellular operator licensed to provide communication services in Tajikistan in the 3G standard  may introduce the mobile TV service.  Today, five of nine cellular operators functioning in Tajikistan provide communications service in the 3G standard: “Babilon-Mobile”; MLT; “Indigo-Tajikistan”; “Indigo-Somoncom”, and “Beeline”.

Closed joint-stock company “Babilon-Mobile” is licensed to provide cellular communications services in Tajikistan in the GSM-900/1800 and 3G standards.  It introduced the GSM-900/1800 standard on January 1, 2003, and in September 2005, Babilon-Mobile introduced the 3G standard for its clients.  In April this year, a number of its clients increased up to 200,000 people.
