DUSHANBE, September 7, Asia-Plus – Officers from the Tajik counternarcotics agency have intercepted a large amount of drugs in the Hamadoni district, Khatlon province.

According to information from press service of Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency (DCA), their officers detained two drug traffickers – 19-year-old resident of the Afghan province of Kunduz Mehrojiddin valadi Nabi and 32-year-old Tajik Abdulmumin Mirov – in one of sections of the Turidyev Collective Farm in Hamadoni yesterday.  30 kilograms of heroin and 52 kilograms of raw opium were confiscated from them, the source said.

Officers from the DCA suppose that Mirov is leader of an organized criminal ring, which has sustainable contacts with Afghan drug dealers and has been involved in drug trafficking for a long time.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted, and investigation is under way.

The DCA press service says their officers have intercepted 1,122 kilograms of drugs, with more than 90 percent of them being heroin and raw opium, since the beginning of the year.  The totaled is almost twice as big compared to indices of the same period of last year, according to the source.
