DUSHANBE, August 25, Asia-Plus — Last year, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and the Russian region of Orienburg amounted to US$25 million, which is 8 percent of a total trade turnover of the Orienburg region in 2005, the Orienburg governor Aleksey Chernyshov told journalists in Dushanbe on August 25. 

Mr. Chernyshov arrived in Tajikistan to attend the Tajik-Russian inter-parliament forum entitled “Tajikistan-Russia: Prospects of Regional Cooperation.”

The Orienburg governor added that his region was interested in boosting cooperation with Tajikistan.  “Tajikistan’s exports to Orienburg include mainly vegetables and fruits,” said Mr. Chernyshov, “We have to consider other opportunities for expansion of our cooperation, especially as Orienburg is ready to cooperate with all regions of Tajikistan in all spheres.”  HE noted that recently a delegation of the Tajik northern province of Sughd had visited the Orienburg region to discuss cooperation issues.   

Aleksey Chernyshov noted that large enterprises of Orienburg were ready to participate in the construction of large facilities in Tajikistan.   

The Orienburg governor noted that the region’s administration would introduce a motion during the forum on holding Days of Tajikistan and exhibition of Tajikistan’s goods in Orienburg next year.   

Mr. Chernyshov added that at present 2,500 citizens of Tajikistan worked in Orienburg on the permanent basis, and another 1,000 Tajiks annually arrived in the region  for seasonal work.
