On Thursday December 5, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a phone conversation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, the press service of Akorda says.

Tokayev reportedly congratulated Donald Trump on his election as President of the United States and "outlined Kazakhstan's position on the most pressing international issues."

"The politicians confirmed their mutual commitment to intensifying the strategic partnership in trade, investment, and nuclear nonproliferation.  The Presidents agreed to maintain regular contacts to ensure the high dynamics of bilateral cooperation," the statement reads.

Tokayev became the first president of a Central Asian country to speak with the newly elected U.S. president by phone.

Donald Trump, who won the election on November 5, will become the 47th President of the United States. His inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025, at the Capitol in Washington.  The Republican is focused on combating illegal immigration and protecting U.S. trade and economic interests.
