In late February 2025, Tajikistan’s privately-owned air carrier, Somon Air, plans to sign an additional protocol to launch direct flights between Dushanbe and London.
In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the head of Tajikistan’s Civil Aviation Agency, Habibullo Nazarzoda, stated on January 29 that the agreement includes two options: a direct Dushanbe–London–Dushanbe route; and an alternative route with a stopover in Tbilisi, Georgia.
“If the direct flight does not reach full capacity, we will launch the alternative route via Tbilisi,” Mr. Nazarzoda said.
The frequency of flights per week has yet to be determined and will depend on demand for tickets.
"For now, we plan to operate one flight per week," the Civil Aviation Agency head added.
New international and domestic flights in 2025
In addition to the London route, Tajikistan plans to launch new international flights in 2025, including: Dushanbe–Kish–Dushanbe; Dushanbe–Jeddah–Dushanbe; as well as flights to Cyprus, Egypt, South Korea, and Hungary.
These new routes aim to expand international air connectivity and improve travel options for passengers.
Meanwhile, the country’s national air carrier, Tajik Air, is expected to launch new domestic flights from Dushanbe to Rasht and Lakhsh districts in Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan) and Vanj district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
The airline recently resumed flights from Dushanbe to GBAO’s capital, Khorog, as well as the cities of Kulob in Khatlon province, and Panjakent in Sughd province after a long hiatus.
However, flights to Khorog and Panjakent have been frequently delayed due to weather conditions.
Somon Air’s 2024 operations
Last year, Somon Air reportedly operated regular and transit flights from Tajikistan to 12 countries: Turkiye; Saudi Arabia; United Arab Emirates; Iran; Russia; Kazakhstan; China; Germany; Uzbekistan; India; Pakistan; and Georgia.
Notably, 51% of all passengers were carried to various cities in the Russian Federation.
