Former Chairperson of the Khujand City Court Homidjon Muhammadzoda and Judge Rustam Mahmadsaidzoda are suspected of taking a bribe in the amount of 2,500 U.S. dollars, Shermuhammad Shohiyon, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 14.
The Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption has reportedly instituted criminal proceedings against them and the judges have been arrested.
“The court head and the judge are charged with taking the bribe in the amount of 2,500 U.S. dollars. According to our information, this amount was divided between them. When the case moves to the Supreme Court for consideration, we will be able to provide more information on this matter,” Shohiyon said.
The information about the arrest of Homidjon Muhammadzoda, Rustam Mahmadsaidzoda and defense lawyer Shohidjon Hojiboyev was published in early May, and the anticorruption agency later confirmed that criminal proceedings have been instituted against them.
