The weather in Tajikistan will be unstable in the final days of 2024 and early 2025. According to the country’s Hydrometeorology Center (Hydromet), most regions are expected to see precipitation, with mountain areas facing particularly challenging conditions due to snow, gusty winds, and avalanche threats.

In the capital, Dushanbe, December 31 will be cloudy with rain. Nighttime temperatures will range from +3°C to +5°C, and during the day it will rise to +5°C to +7°C. A moderate westerly wind is expected. On January 1, short-term precipitation will continue. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +0 to +2°C, while daytime readings will remain at +5°C to +7°C.

Weather in districts subordinate to the center will vary. Valleys may see partly cloudy skies and localized rain, with daytime highs reaching up to +10°C. In the mountains, heavy rain and snow are expected. Night temperatures may fall below freezing, while daytime temperatures will hover around zero.

In Sughd province, no significant precipitation is expected in the valleys on December 31, with temperatures reaching +12°C to +13°C. Rain and snow are possible in the foothills and mountainous areas. On January 1, precipitation may extend to the valleys, and stronger winds will bring cooler conditions — daytime temperatures will drop to +3°C to +8°C.

In Khatlon province, the end of the year will be relatively warm. On December 31, valley areas will see daytime temperatures between +10°C and +15°C. However, weather conditions are expected to worsen on January 1: rain is forecast, snow is possible in the foothills, and temperatures will fall to +3°C to +8°C.

The harshest weather is forecast for the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, or GBAO. In the western part, precipitation is likely with mild positive daytime temperatures. In the eastern areas, severe frost will persist, with nighttime temperatures dropping to –25°C and daytime highs at –15°C.

Forecasters are also warning of avalanche risks on December 30 and 31 along the Dushanbe–Chanak highway and the Maikhoura section in the Varzob district. Drivers are strongly advised to consider weather risks when planning their trips.
