DUSHANBE

, January 17, Asia-Plus – During stay in Tehran Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov was also planned to attend tripartite summit of three Persian-speaking countries of

Iran

,

Afghanistan

and

Tajikistan

scheduled to be held in

Tehran

on January 17.  But the tripartite summit will not be held because

Afghanistan

’s President Hamid Karzai cannot attend the meeting for “technical reasons”, Afghanistan.ru Internet-agency reported.

IRNA reports Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai on Monday.  During the telephone conversation, the Afghan president highlighted his country”s difficulties and said that he was very busy with the upcoming meeting in

London

on ”Aid for Reconstruction of Afghanistan” and therefore he could not attend the heads of states meeting in

Tehran

, according to IRNA.  He expressed the hope that he would visit

Tehran

at the earliest opportunity, IRNA reported.

Some experts link postponement of Karzai’s visit to

Iran

to debates around the nuclear program of

Iran

.  They also hold that Afghan president’s visit to Iran ahead of an international conference on aid for reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy scheduled to held in London in late January might complicate dialogue with Western countries.
