On Monday October 31, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon conveyed his condolences to India’s President Droupadi Murmu over a deadly bridge crash in the westerns state of Gujarat, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted in his message of condolences, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of death of a large number of people after a bridge collapsed in the state of Gujarat.”
A suspension bridge over the Machchhu River in the town of Morbi collapsed on Sunday, October 30. There were about 500 people on the bridge at the time of the accident. According to the latest data, 141 people, mostly women and children, were killed and 177 others suffered injuries.
The bridge, a popular tourist destination constructed over 100 years ago, reopened after reconstruction only last week.
