Uzbekistan may grant prisoners online access to public services

Uzbek media reports say the country’s authorities are considering the possibility of granting prisoners online access to public services.

Kun.uz reports that Uzbekistan’s Interior Ministry has published a draft law on amending the internal regulations of penitentiary institutions on the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services.

The document, in particular, provides for allocating a separate room, in which prisoners could use electronic public services, including notary services.

This room will be equipped with webcam and computer equipment connected to the Internet.

According to UZREPORT news agency, the discussion will last until November 9.

The draft reportedly also notes that these amendments have been agreed with the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations and the Supreme Court.
