DUSHANBE, February 10, Asia-Plus  — “Position of the United States over cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad may be assessed as dual” Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Nasser Sarmad-Parsa remarked a news conference in Dushanbe on February 10.

The Iranian Embassy hosted the conference on occasion of the 27

th

anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

“On the one hand, the United States has condemned this action, while on other hand it has stated that it supports freedom of speech,” Iranian diplomat said.  According to him, “that is condemned cannot be supported at the same time.”

On the Holocaust of Jews during the Second World War, Nasser Sarmad-Parsa noted that it was still a problem for scientific discussion, and there were still debates on this issue in Europe.  “But as soon as this question has been touched upon, the West has responded immediately,” Iranian ambassador said.  “As far as the issue of cartoons misrepresenting the Prophet Muhammad is concerned, it does not have any scientific ground to be discussed and to discuss this issue – it means to make pressure on 1.5 billion people on the Planet,” Mr. Sarmad-Parsa stated.

Iranian ambassador reiterated condemnation of the cartoons on the same day in the evening, at a reception organized in Dushanbe on the occasion of the 27

th

anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
