DUSHANBE, April 25, 2009, Asia-Plus  – A Regional Training-of-Trainers course on Integrated Border Management (IBM), organized with the support of the EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia assistance program BOMCA, finished in Dushanbe on April 24.

According to Delegation of the European Commission to Tajikistan, during five days, experienced trainers from the European Union, supported by the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), instructed representatives of border agencies from all five Central Asian countries on modern training methodologies to prepare and conduct trainings as trainers, on the IBM concept, and on cooperation and coordination between border agencies.

This workshop is a follow-up of two regional training-of-trainers courses held in October-November 2008 in Bishkek and Almaty.  During these two events, 20 trainers from Central Asian Border Services, Customs, Phyto-sanitary and Veterinary and Sanitary-Epidemiology Services were trained on modern IBM methods as well as on the use of the “IBM Training Manual” developed by ICMPD.

In the framework of the EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance program, the European Union helps foster institutional reform in the area of border management, supports the strengthening of training capacities in Central Asia, and assists in the enhancement of infrastructure capacities along trade and transit corridors in Central Asia.

The EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP.
