DUSHANBE, March 3, 2009, Asia-Plus — The first coordination meeting on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) project on improvement of laboratory facilities for ensuring safety of food products that was held in Vienna last week approved five new projects for Tajikistan for a total amount of 1.5 million US dollars, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) press service.
Deputy Health Minister Azamjon Mirzoyev and Chairman of the Center for Sanitary ad Epidemiological Supervision within a MoH Samariddin Aliyev represented Tajikistan at the session. They delivered statements on the food safety situation in the country, national prospects and resources needed to solve the food safety problem.
The meeting discussed goals and objectives, expected outcomes, and activities provided for by the IAEA project. The session participants, in particular, worked out recommendations connected with holding of appropriate activities, including organization of expert missions, training seminars and workshops for specialists from countries participating in the project, the press service said.
New five projects approved for Tajikistan are aimed at providing assistance to the central republican laboratory with analysis of radioactive and other residues in food and agricultural products as well as providing support to concomitant labs on the border with neighboring countries.
