KULOB, March 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — On March 2, the supply of daily electricity to eight districts in Khatlon’s Kulob region increased from 2,000-3,000 to 8,000 kWh, according to the Kulob electric systems.

This amount is enough to supply electrical power only to the vital sites in the region, the source at the Kulob electric systems said.

We will recall that new power rationing introduced in eight districts of the Kulob region on February 9 resulted in the supply of daily electricity being reduced to 2,000-3,000 kWh.  This amount was enough to keep pump stations in districts centers operational for only 2-3 hours.

In the meantime, residential customers in the city of Kulob currently have electricity several hours per day.

The source expressed hope that the resumption of Turkmen electricity deliveries and the beginning of supply of Uzbek electrical power to the country would allow increasing power supplies to the provinces.
