DUSHANBE, February 28, 2009, Asia-Plus – Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh changed a schedule of his official visit to Tajikistan and left Dushanbe on February 27.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the head of the MFA information department Davlat Nazriyev said that Friday afternoon, after official negotiations of the government delegations of the two counties and signing of documents, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh visited the city of Norak where he got acquainted with operation of Tajikistan’s largest hydroelectric power station (HPS). Friday evening, Yemeni leader, along with accompanying delegation, left Dushanbe, the MFA spokesman said. Tajik MFA refrained from commenting on reasons for shortening of the visit schedule.
We will recall that Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh arrived in Dushanbe in the evening of February 26 and was scheduled to stay here till Saturday evening. Yemeni leader was supposed to hold talks with Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev and Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov.
In the meantime, Yemeni news agency, Saba, reported on February 27 that President Ali Abdullah Saleh left Tajikistan on Friday after a two-day state visit. Upon departure, Saleh expressed his appreciation for the generous welcome and reception he received from the Tajik government and people, expressing hope the Yemeni-Tajik relations and cooperation expand further. He was seen off by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and a number of Tajik senior officials, Saba reported.
As it had been reported earlier, February 27 negotiations between Tajik and Yemeni government delegations in Dushanbe resulted in signing of two documents. Rahmon and Saleh inked a joint statement on expansion of friendship and cooperation.
Besides, Tajik Ministry of Health and Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population singed a cooperation agreement. Tajik Health Minister Nasrullo Salimov and Yemeni Minister of Public Health and Population Numan al-Suhaibi signed the agreement that provides for exchanging visits, scientific information and medical conference, and training of medical personnel.
