Tajik labor migrants in working Russia recommended seeking support only in Tajik embassy

Date:

DUSHANBE, September 24, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Applications from Tajik labor migrants working in Russia to the Tajik Embassy in Moscow over nonpayment of their wages or other instances of violation of their rights by dishonest employers became frequent lately, according to the Tajik Embassy in Moscow.

86 Tajik nationals applied to the migration section of the embassy’s consular department on September 20 alone.  They made complaints against the administration of open joint-stock company Surugtstroytrest that has not paid their wages for six months.

After negotiations, the company promised to consider and resolve the issue, the source said.  Over the past three months, the embassy has helped Tajik nationals working in Russian receive their wages for a total amount of 1.557 million Russian rubles, he noted.

The Tajik Embassy in Moscow asks Tajik labor migrants to apply directly to the embassy in case of violation of their rights but not to doubtful firms that usually deceive them, the source added.
