Tajik president invites Japanese PM to pay visit to Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, September 23, 2010, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon met with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan in New York Wednesday evening on sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, according to presidential press service.

In the course of the talks, President Ramon noted that Japan was a reliable partner of Tajikistan and cooperation with Japan was one of priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.

Tajik leader expressed satisfaction with implementation of a political initiative between Japan and Central Asia’s nations – the Central Asia plus Japan Dialogue and appreciated Japan’s support for rehabilitation of road connecting Tajikistan and Afghanistan as well as enhancement of education and health sectors in Tajikistan.

The two also discussed the construction of rail link connecting Tajikistan and Afghanistan and 125 megawatt hydropower plant in Gorno Badakhshan.

Emomali Rahmon invited Prime Minister Naoto Kan to pay an official visit to Tajikistan
