DUSHANBE, September 22, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi has held a number of bilateral talks in New York on sidelines of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly, according to the MFA information department.

On September 20, Zarifi met with the UNODC executive director Yuri Fedotov.  They discussed further expansion of cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and UNODC, training of personnel for Tajik law enforcement agencies and regional issues, including the current situation in Afghanistan.

The same day, Zarifi met with Mr. Pierre Morel, EU Special Representative for Central Asia.  The two exchanged views on issues related to management of borders and fight against drug trafficking.  Zarifi and Morel also discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the European Union (EU) Troika met yesterday in New York on the sideline of the UN General Assembly annual meetings to discuss the situation in Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.  The OIC delegation was led by Hamrokhon Zarifi and the EU delegation was led by Catherine Ashton, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
