DUSHANBE, September 21, 2010, Asia-Plus  — In connection with the current situation in Tajikistan and uneasy situation in the Rasht region, the board of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) released an appeal to the Tajik people today.

The appeal, in particular, says that although after signing of a General Peace Agreement a long-awaited peace has come to Tajikistan, some internal and external enemies of the Tajik people again want to sow the seeds of discord and enmity on the ancient Tajik land.

Extremism has always threatened our country, but culture of reconciliation, mutual understanding, tolerance and forgiveness have always saved the Tajiks from annihilation, the appeal says.

“Condemning murders and blasts and extending condolences are not enough today.  The time has come to make resolute steps towards strengthening of peace and national unity.  Clerics and Muslims of Tajikistan must now demonstrate that our religion really propagates peace, unity and constructive endeavor.”

In its appeal, IRP strongly condemns the attack on the military convoy in Rasht and extends condolences to servicemen who were killed in that shocking action.
