DUSHANBE, February 26, 2009, Asia-Plus — Issues related to formation of a new group comprising officers from the Tajik Ministry of Interior (MoI) that will be included as component of the UN peacekeeping forces were a major topic of a meeting of senior officials from Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative Office to the United Nations with representatives of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York on February 24, according to Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative Office to the United Nations.
The new group is expected to consist of 30-50 police officers. Representatives of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations expressed readiness to participate in training and attestation of representatives of Tajikistan that expressed wish to join this group, the source.
We will recall that five Tajik police officers currently serve in the UN peacekeeping force in Sudan’s Darfur.
