DUSHANBE, August 25, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The first sitting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan took place in the Kazakh capital Astana on August 24.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries, interaction between them within regional and international organizations, as well as a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, including security in the Central Asian region, the situation in neighboring Kyrgyzstan and the Afghan problems.  A special attention was paid to the issue of rational use of water-and-energy resources in the region.

The first meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan resulted in signing of a government-to-government agreement between the two countries on mutual provision of parcels of land for construction of buildings for diplomatic missions.  The document was inked by Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and Kazakhstan’s Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev.

The sides also signed a protocol of the first meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan that outlines further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
