KHUJAND, August 24, 2010, Asia-Plus — Resident of Khujand has got a jail term of five years for driving his step daughter to suicide.

The Khujand city court sentenced local resident Nourmurod Safarov, 42, to five years in prison on August 17.  The sentence followed his conviction on the charges of driving to suicide (Article 109 (2).  Safarov will serve the term in a high-security penal colony.

The source at the Khujand prosecutor’s office says, “Investigation has established that Safarov has regularly humiliated his step daughter, the 14-year-old Bunafsha Jumayeva, considering that she is the cause of scandals between him and his wife.”

Bunafsha decided to commit suicide as she was not able to bear humiliations any more and she drank vinegar on April 15; fortunately, medical workers managed to save her life.
