Dushanbe. June 14. “Asia-Plus” — In the course of his official visit to Tashkent, which hosts regular summit of heads of SCO member states, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon met with his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov, President’s press service told the AP.

According to the source, the sides have discussed current condition and further development of cooperation between the two states.

Special attention was given to problematic issues of bilateral relations of the two countries, including ways of further development of Tajikistan’s energy sector and normal functioning of the interstate transport and communication infrastructure.

The two presidents have agreed that Uzbekistan will release freight wagons loaded with foodstuffs, fuel and other goods designed for Tajikistan but which do not contain materials designed for construction of Rogun hydropower plant, including wagons that follow Termez – Amuzang – Kurgon-Teppa route.

Additionally, the sides have discussed problems connected with construction of Rogun hydropower plant. Tajikistan has once again confirmed its intention to conduct an independent international expertise of socio-economic and environmental aspects of the construction of the given facility with support of the World Bank.

The sides have also agreed to continue contacts in order to ensure openness and transparency of the given process.

The sides have also discussed a range of other issues of regional and international character, including situation connected with provision of security and stability in Central Asia.
