DUSHANBE, April 27, 2010, Asia-Plus – Deputy chief of the Main Border Guards Directorate within the State Committee for National Security, Colonel Saymuddin Mirzoyev, was caught red-handed in Dushanbe when he was taking bribe for hiding crime, Fattoh Saidov, director of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 27.
According to him, Colonel Mirzoyev was caught red-handed last week when he was taking 15,000 U.S. dollars for hiding the drug trafficking crime. “The preliminary investigation has established that earlier, Mirzoyev had taken 30,000 U.S. dollars for the similar crime,” the anticorruption agency chief said.
Criminal proceedings against the corrupt border officer have been instituted under the provisions of Article 319 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – bribery.
The Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption was established in January 2007, merging anticorruption responsibilities previously held by several other bodies, including the State Financial Control Committee, the Main Tax Police Directorate, and the Directorate for Combating Corruption.
