DUSHANBE, February 16, 2010, Asia-Plus — The Ministry of Education of Tajikistan and the Islamic Azad University of Tehran have signed a memorandum of cooperation.
Noilsho Nouraliyev, a spokesman for the ministry of education (MoE), told Asia-Plus that the document was inked here on February 15 by Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov and visiting President of the Islamic Azad University, Professor Abdollah J. Jassbi.
According to him, the document provides for exchange of students, post-graduate students and lecturers, participation of sides in regional and international scientific and educational events, including international conferences and Olympiads.
The sides also agreed that a center for Tajik studies will be established at one of Iranian research institutions and a joint research center will be established at Tajik National University in Dushanbe in the near future.
Besides, the Islamic Azad University will allot Tajikistan 10 quotas for bachelor and master degree courses.
We will recall that Professor Abdollah J. Jassbi arrived in Dushanbe on February 13 for a three-day working visit. The purpose of the visit was for the Islamic Azad University president to get license from the Ministry of Education of Tajikistan for functioning of its branch in Tajikistan and sign bilateral agreements on exchange of students and teachers.
According to Wikipedia, Islamic Azad University is a private chain of universities in Iran. Founded in 1982, the Islamic Azad University, with headquarters in Tehran, currently has an enrollment of 1.3 million students,
making it one of the worlds largest. The university system also operates a news agency similar to ANA, named “Azad News Agency.”
Islamic Azad University”s activities quickly expanded throughout the country, so that today thousands of students are benefiting from its high educational standards. Not relying on government funding, it charges students with tuition fees. The certificates issued by this university should be recognized upon evaluation by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Islamic Azad University is one of the credible universities in Iran. Masters and doctorate programs have been offered in many different branches of Islamic Azad University.
