DUSHANBE, February 11, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Report released by some media that Uzbek authorities are allegedly holding up Tajik railroad cars at the Uzbek-Tajik border under various pretexts does not correspondent to the fact, Andrei Tropin, deputy head of the Tajik Railways shipment department, told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon.

According to him, both cargo cars and passenger carriages are freely running through the Uzbek territory.

“There was a certain problem with cargo trains from Turkmenistan at the end of last year, but this problem has been solved by mid-January and at present there are no any more problems with the stalled railroad shipments,” Tropin said.

We will recall that about 1,000 railroad cars carrying construction materials and foodstuffs to Tajikistan were being held by Uzbek railroad company and customs and border officials at the Uzbek-Tajik border for several weeks at the end of last year.
