DUSHANBE, December 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Defense Minister, Colonel-General Sherali Khairulloyev, today departed for Islamabad, Pakistan for an official visit, according to the Ministry of Defense (MoD).

The source at a MoD said that it was the first visit the Tajik defense minister to Pakistan and during his stay in Islamabad, Khairulloyev would hold talks with political and defense officials of Pakistan.

“Military and military-technical cooperation as well as training of personnel for Tajik national army are among major topics of Khairulloyev’s discussions with his Pakistani counterpart, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, and other Pakistan defense officials,” the source said.

According to him, Khairulloyev’s visit to Islamabad is expected to result in signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries.

In the meantime, Pakistani news agency Online International News Network (OINN) reported today that  a seven member Tajik Defense delegation, led by the Defense Ministry of Tajikistan, Colonel-General Sherali Khairulloyev, is arriving today (Tuesday) on three days visit to Pakistan.  According to details during his visit the delegation will call on Federal Minister for Defense, Ch. Ahmad Mukhtar, and other senior defense officials of Pakistan.  The visit of Tajikistan Defense delegation to Pakistan will further enhance bilateral cooperation between the countries particularly in field of defense
