DUSHANBE, December 10, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Government of Japan allocates US$93,333 for the Grass-roots Assistance for Human Security Projects, press release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe said.

On Wednesday December 9, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy in Dushanbe, and Ms. Mukarama Nematova, Director of the Republican School for Hearing Impaired Children in Rudaki District signed a grant contract for “The Project for Rehabilitation of the Republican School for Hearing Impaired Children in Rudaki District”.

The Republican School for Hearing Impaired Children is one of the three republican boarding schools in Tajikistan, accepting 160 children with hearing impairment.  Despite the continuous effort for better condition by the school itself, the conditions are still bad; facilities in the school have been damaged seriously due to long use without main rehabilitation since its construction in 1949.

In such situation, children’s security, hygienic conditions and adequate education are critically under concern. In order to improve the living conditions and educational environment for the children, residence hall and hygienic facilities of the school will be rehabilitated and necessary equipment such as washing machines and beds will be installed by the project. Students and teachers in the school will have improved condition in terms of security and hygiene which will ensure better living and quality of education.

The project will also be contributed by the construction company “Rustami Sunnat” (US$13,800) to cover labor cost.

People with disability have very limited opportunity to acquire quality education/training that leads to unemployment among these people and economical burden for their families.

In order to ensure quality of life and education for people with disability, the Government of Japan has assisted those, who are marginalized in the society, so that they can realize their capacity and be fully active in the society.

The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) provides support to projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. The GGP is provided to local governments, NGOs, and educational and medical institutions in developing countries. The GGP has extended more than US$ 15, 3 million for 232 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
